Background

IRRIS is an enterprise Web portal that easily integrates live and operational data from a variety of sources and formats and has the ability to integrate, query, view, and overlay data from multiple sources. GeoDecisions, an information technology firm specializing in geospatial solutions, originally developed the technology in partnership with the U.S. Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command Transportation Engineering Agency (SDDCTEA). SDDCTEA continues to use the application to manage the movement of military surface cargo throughout the world.

IRRIS Today

Today, portions of IRRIS have been Department of Defense (DOD) declassified, enabling it to serve as a sophisticated and mature multi-component display, reporting, and analysis system for clients in many government agencies and the private sector.

IRRIS can receive information about tracked assets via satellite or cellular communications, logged events (such as the arrival of a shipment at a supply destination), or radio frequency identification (RFID) tag technology. The location of a vehicle can be transmitted, and the resulting latitude and longitude coordinates, condition of the asset, or alarms for non-performing assets are captured, transmitted to IRRIS, and displayed on a map.

IRRIS is a powerful tool to help clients meet the challenges of tracking logistics in near-real-time. It integrates, displays, and overlays critical information about transportation infrastructure, near-real-time traffic and weather conditions, and asset information. Currently, IRRIS draws from more than 400 data sets containing transportation infrastructure information on bridges, tunnels, road conditions, construction, as well as up-to-the-minute weather. An asset’s current location and active route conditions can be displayed on a map, making the system ideal for the most efficient transportation logistics and tracking.
