IRRIS technology is a comprehensive application for planning and analysis that incorporates advanced information technology, geographic information systems (GIS), and location-based services (LBS) into one common interface, providing a single point of data access. IRRIS technology integrates a variety of static and real-time information, including road conditions, construction, incidents, and weather, and provides data through an interactive mapping interface. This common operating picture (COP) enables more advanced spatial analysis and relationship comparisons to enhance transportation security, mobility, planning, response, and situational awareness.
Government and civilian decision makers require powerful tools that can improve their ability to plan, prevent, respond, and recover from future incidents and events; monitor and manage traffic flow; and collect and analyze transportation system performance data. Through IRRIS technology, civilian and government agencies can share information and visualize critical asset and emergency action plan data for improved incident response. Key security components within IRRIS enable transportation and homeland security users to build maps and view real-time images of strategic ports and satellite imagery of key airports. The application’s shipment tracking, transportation, and risk management tools can pinpoint the location of vehicles and cargo in real time, making it especially effective for monitoring and control of shipments of supplies to disaster areas or for more routine monitoring of vehicle movement, such as snowplows and emergency vehicles.

Critical information about assets, such as airports, dams, water plants, nuclear power plants, power grids, and bus and commuter rail lines and facilities, can be integrated into an IRRIS system. Emergency and security force locations can be identified and tracked in real time. IRRIS receives information about tracked assets from secure file transmissions of satellite communications, logged events, or radio frequency identification (RFID) tag technology. Tracking carrier performance enables users to quickly generate reports for specified shipments, and decision support functionality can be integrated for quick response and effective resource deployment. Plume analysis can be used to depict the effects of hazardous materials and/or explosives on any geographic area. A data query tool provides on-demand access to “narrowed down” data sets that can be analyzed and exported to a spreadsheet, portable document format (PDF), or chart —enabling transportation security and first responders to make better emergency response decisions. Collaboration tools allow users in remote locations to share map analysis and report data.

IRRIS was developed for the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command Transportation Engineering Agency (SDDCTEA) to assist in analyzing infrastructure readiness, from Continental United States (CONUS) forts to ports, in the event of a national emergency. IRRIS technology offers highly detailed reporting and querying tools, advanced alert and notification functions, and both In-Transit Visibility (ITV) and Total Asset Visibility (TAV). GeoDecisions developed this product as an open system, so it can easily incorporate information from various current and legacy databases. GeoDecisions has also developed Web services that provide mapping and vehicle route calculation capabilities. This flexibility allows IRRIS technology to accommodate the varying needs of government agencies and first responders across multiple regions or states.
